Summer is finally here and let me tell you, it is HOT in Los Angeles. The other day I got in my car only to BURN myself on the leather seats and then again on the metal details. Ouch!
All weather-related complaining aside though, Summer is my favorite season for SO many reasons. A few of them being: the beach. rosé. having rosé during the day. having rosé during the day on the beach... basically a lot of rosé and a lot of beach... Okay, you get the picture.
As I go about my day, I'll notice a few trends that really stick out to me. So far, Summer in LA has brought these 3 looks to the top of my list as "Must-Haves", for their effortless vibe and comfortable demeanor. I'm always looking for ways to make it look like I put in more effort than I actually did, especially when it comes to getting ready. So, I came up with a couple "short cuts" (no pun intended) to use when putting together an outfit.
1. GIRLY DRESS + DENIM JACKET + TENNIS SHOES
Why? The girly-girl dress in the middle of summer in LA on it's own comes across as cliche. Not to mention, BARE. It's a skimpy spaghetti strap dress that barely reaches mid-thigh. Throw on a light denim jacket and tennis shoes- and BAM! Total comfort while still looking put together. You've got a flirty dress on, but the rest of your outfit is understated, striking the perfect balance between dolled up and super casual.
2) EMBROIDERED DENIM JACKET + DENIM CUT OFF SHORTS
Why? Embroidered denim jackets are very much IN right now. I'm seeing them everywhere. Literally everywhere. There's actually one outside my window as I type. See? They're everywhere. But in all seriousness, they're everywhere for good reason! They look good, they're interesting, and almost everyone has their own variation of one. I like to do denim on denim because it's summer and we can get away with that right now. Enjoy it while it lasts.
3) ATHLEISURE + SPORTY HAT
Why? So, the whole "athleisure" concept is nothing new, but I think it's important to note it here. Running shorts or leggings worn with a fitted t-shirt and your favorite hat from the best school (cough, USC) gives you a look that says "Yes, I'm running errands. No, I won't be working out. BUT, if I have to race you to the checkout line I WILL win".
I hope these little short cut/style formulas are helpful! If you're like me and dread putting together a new outfit everyday, give these a try. What are your go-to outfits for summer?
