Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Lately I've been seeing cauliflower replace just about anything and everything in order to satisfy some craving... First, there were cauliflower "wings" in place of chicken wings, then it was cauliflower rice, now there's cauliflower pizza crust.

As both a foodie and a health nut, I had to give it a try. The first time I tried it, I made it myself. In total, from start to finish, it took about an hour and a half to make the pizza from scratch. By the time I was half way through making the "dough", I had eaten so many mini pepperonis that I was already practically full. Oops.

None the less, I actually thought that cauliflower pizza crust tasted pretty good! No, it didn't have the chewy-ness that a regular pizza dough would have, but it also didn't have the carbs that a regular pizza dough would have. When I made it myself my only issues were that 1) I realized I cannot STAND the smell of raw cauliflower. Once it's cooked, for what ever reason, the smell goes away, so don't worry. But, when it's raw and you're forming the dough with your hands, it's hard to get away from the smell. And let me tell you, it's potent. My other issue is that it is a bit of a process to make.

I'll save the details on how to make it at home from scratch for another post, but basically, you put the cauliflower through a food processor, then boil it, then strain it, then make the dough. It sounds easy, and for the most part it is, but unless you WANT to spend an hour in the kitchen when you don't have to, I don't really see why you wouldn't just opt for a frozen crust?

So, a week later, when I saw that Trader Joe's has a pre-made frozen crust, I was pretty excited! It really took all the work out of making the pizza. I just bought the crust and what I wanted to add as toppings, which were: Organic tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, fire roasted red peppers, Italian seasoning and chili flakes.

I decided to live Instagram-story the whole process. Needless to say, people were pretty interested! I had friends asking whether or not it really tastes like pizza, how difficult it was to make, and if I would share the recipe.

For one, yes, it does taste like a pizza in the sense that there is all the pizza flavors there. Flavor, I give it a 10/10. Texture-wise, though, like I said earlier, there isn't the chewy and dough-y-ness that a regular pizza has. But, if you're on a diet and just craving pizza, this will definitely hit the spot!

The next question I got asked, was if it was difficult to make or not. Simply put, no. As long as you know how to smear tomato sauce, sprinkle cheese and toppings, and turn on the oven, you should be fine. It's a very easy process.

And finally, here is the recipe. I hope if you try this you enjoy it!

What you will need:

1 Frozen Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Organic tomato sauce

Fresh mozzarella

Fire roasted red bell peppers

Chili flakes

Italian seasonings

Add your sauce, cheese, toppings and seasonings to the frozen crust. Put in the oven at 450 degrees for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted completely and the edges of the crust are golden brown.

Let the pizza rest for a few minutes immediately after you take it out of the oven. If you try to cut it right away, it will fall apart! So, be warned. It needs a minute to "set".
